Defense Mechanisms

I realized something; I have two distinct coping mechanisms. First, if I feel overwhelmed or cannot change the situation I try to distract myself from it even if the distraction may be potentially harmful to me in the long run (like buying things when I have no money). The second is anger. When I feel hurt I respond in anger so that I "avoid" feeling hurt. Often I want to cry but instead of telling the person they are really hurting my feelings I respond in anger to push them away from me so they cannot hurt me further. The reasons why I may feel hurt by one thing and not another is a completely different and unrelated matter.
