You know, if you read about what is going on with the weather and climate it's more than a little disconcerting. Ocean levels rising, glaciers melting, algae dying off, warmer ocean waters...people really should pay more attention to the planet. To me it seems obvious that the planet is renewing herself, just another stage in Earth's life-cycle. However the effect it has on humans could be quite profound.

It also concerns me that scientists are drilling in Antarctica to retrieve ancient ice cores. They hope to be able to learn more about our past to help predict our future. This is all fine and good except they are digging up actual air pockets from millions of years ago. We may have evolved, but who is to say some strain of a virus that died out is not contained within those pockets? Not too sound too X-files-ish, but humans do have a bad history of unleashing destructive forces upon ourselves.

With the melting of the ice caps and rising sea levels, I wonder how much fuel was used to send condoms to the scientists in Antarctica so they didn't have to be embarrassed. Sometimes I wonder if we really have evolved...
